Three Ways To Make A Manhattan

Like the Old Fashioned, a Manhattan is a classic cocktail that has been poured in bars for over a century. It has gone in and out of favor over the years, but seems to be enjoying a renaissance right now. As a result, you will see lots of Manhattan variants on bar menus, as some bartenders use it as a template for their own creations. What new Manhattan fans may not know is that the cocktail that already has plenty of variations – some of which have been around almost as long as the basic recipe – and sometimes those originals are the best way to go.

Method: Stir

Manhattan
2 oz. Rye Whiskey
1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes of Bitters

Pour all of the ingredients into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir for about 20 seconds until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry.

 

 

Dry Manhattan
2 oz. Rye Whiskey
1 oz. Dry Vermouth
2 Dashes of Bitters

Pour all of the ingredients into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir for about 20 seconds until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.

Perfect Manhattan
2 oz. Rye Whiskey
1/2 oz. Dry Vermouth
1/2 oz. Sweet Vermouth
2 Dashes of Bitters

Pour all of the ingredients into a mixing glass. Add ice and stir for about 20 seconds until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lemon twist.

    Interesting! I was under the impression that Manhattans could only be made with sweet vermouth. Now I’m intrigues and want to try it with dry and sweet & dry!

    I like adding some cherry syrup to my Manhattans to add a bit of flavor to it as well!
