The Sidecar is a classic cocktail that has been on menus for almost a century. The origin of the drink can be traced to Paris, where the Ritz Hotel in Paris claims that it invented the drink at the end of the first world war. The name is often attributed to an American Army captain who was a particular fan of the drink and arrived to drink it – whether at the Ritz or elsewhere – in a motorcycle sidecar. Regardless of its exact origins, this cocktail is a combination of brandy, Cointreau and lemon juice that never goes out of style.

Pour ingredients into a mixing glass and fill with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass rimmed with sugar.
