Brown Derby Cocktail

The distinctive hat-shaped Brown Derby restaurant opened in 1926 on Wilshire Blvd and was a Los Angeles icon for decades. The Brown Derby cocktail is often attributed to the restaurant on the similarity of the name and the fact that the drink came into popularity in LA during the 1930s heyday of the Brown Derby restaurant, although – as with so many drinks – there are more than a few claims on the invention of the cocktail. Today, the restaurant in gone and a mini mall stands where it uses to be, but the cocktail is as good as ever.
